Here is a link to video Fariya Doctor posted. She is a Feldenkrais practitioner in Ontario. It is a great explanation of how the Feldenkrais Method can help someone with back pain.

Parasitic movement

Moshe Feldenkrais coined the word ‘parasitic movement’ to describe movement that a person does that interferes with our intended movement or function. We all do parasitic movements all the time and we are not aware that we are doing them.  If we were aware of them we wouldn’t do them because they create resistance, excess effort and in most cases pain.

When we gradually peel away these parasitic movements by bringing awareness to them,  our actions become easier, more elegant and we can perform at a much higher level of achievement.  If that sounds appealing, it should. Who doesn’t want to reclaim our youthful easy movement and find all the possibility that lies in expanded awareness.  It is there for everyone; underneath all our habitual parasitic actions!
